Cycling from coast to coast in the UK on a C2C biking holiday offers one of the most challenging and rewarding cycling holiday experiences in Scotland and England. There are few countries on the planet where cycling from coast to coast is possible. We can tailor-make our coast to coast cycling trips to your fitness level, type of accommodation you'd like to stay in and what type of bike you'll be riding on your C2C cycling holiday. This blog concentrates on our road biking biking coast to coast holidays, which can also be ridden on a hybrid, gravel or mountain bike. We also offer a range of coast to coast mountain biking trips but I'll tackle those in a separate blog entry so as to avoid confusion.
Hadrian's Wall C2C (or Hadrian's Cycleway)
This fabulous coast to coast cycling holiday is perfect for those people who are interested in the history of the UK. You can explore many fascinating Roman remains along the length of Hadrian's Wall. There are several route options which vary the total distance cycled along this C2C biking holiday and we can therefore tailor the cycling route to the number of days that you'd like to cycle for and the distance that you'd like to cycle each day. In terms of the amount of climbing on this cycling route, this cycling holiday is probably the easiest coast to coast route that we offer. The terrain is relatively flat at the beginning and end of the cycling holiday, with some short, sharp climbs to be tackled as the C2C cyling route crosses the North Pennines. This C2C route passes through many small town and villages in some remote parts of Northern England and finishes on the North Sea coast at beautiful Tynemouth.
The Way of the Roses
The Way of the Roses cycling route starts in Morecambe and finishes in Bridlington, two seaside resort towns with bags of character and beautiful coastal views. In between you'll cycle through glorious Lancashire and Yorkshire countryside, experiencing some of the most fabulous views either the red or white rose county has to offer. This cycling route passes through the Lune Valley, the Yorkshire Dales and the rolling Yorkshire Wolds. The beautiful scenery is enhanced by the pretty picture postcard villages the cycle route passes through and tehre are plenty of opportunities for refreshments on each day of your cycling holiday. This cycling route has a few challenging climbs on it, making the views from the tops of those hills all the more rewarding, and it can be completed in 2 to 5 days of cycling. This cycling route is perfect for any leisure cyclist looking for a challenge with plenty of coffee and cake stops through gorgeous scenery.
Southern Scotland Coast to Coast
The Trailbrakes Team has spent the last few years piecing together what we think is one of the finest coast to coast road biking routes in the UK. Beginning in the beautiful Galloway fishing village of Portpatrick and ending in Berwick, the bustling Borders market town, we think that our Southern Scotland C2C biking route makes for a cycling holiday just as exhilarating as any of the official, signposted Sustrans coast to coast cycling routes in the UK. The roads on this cycling route are particularly quiet and the terrain offers a perfect combination of rolling countryside and stunning wilderness views. If you're looking for a coast to coast cycling holiday that will take you away from it all whilst cycling through peaceful, rural surroundings then this is the C2C cycling trip for you. This cycling route is just under 200 miles long and can be completed in between 2 and 5 days.
The Classic C2C Cycle Route
This iconic coast to coast cycling route has been challenging hardy cyclists for nearly 30 years. It covers almost 140 miles of challenging terrain across the beautiful Lake District and stunningly wind-swept North Pennines, between Whitehaven and Tynemouth or Sunderland. This is the original C2C cycling route in the UK and is not for the faint of heart! With around three and a half thousand metres of climbing, this cycling route includes around double the amount of ascent as the Hadrian's Wall Coast to Coast biking route. The C2C cycling route passes right through the heart of the Northern Lake District and offers spectaular views of iconic Lakeland fells from the very start. You're then faced with the mammoth challenge of infamous Hartside Pass, which leads into the desolate North Pennine Moors. The classic C2C biking route is understandably enduringly popular and is at the top of many cyclists' bucket lists.
Kirkpatrick Coast to Coast
If you'd like to explore the hidden corners of Southern Scotland, the Kirkpatrick C2C is the perfect road cycling route for you. This brand new 250-mile coast to coast biking route winds its way from the Irish Sea to the North Sea coast, taking in some of the least-known regions of Scotland, including dramatic coastlines, beautiful lochs, stunning moorlands and ancient abbeys. This coast to coast cycling route can be completed in 4 days but if you've got a bit of extra time on your hands, you'll be rewarded with many unforgettable experiences - on and off the bike!
